how to wear and care

We're all about making every day a little brighter and a lot more fabulous with our unique pieces. But great power (yes, the power to dazzle) comes with great responsibility. That's why we've put together this playful guide on how to wear and care for your HAKOUM pieces.

rule n°1: wear it like you mean it!

Wear it! Enjoy it! Don’t become the victim of consumer culture just for the sake of buying something. Wear and enjoy your pieces: every. single. day. If you want to buy jewelry for a special occasion, that’s totally fine—we dig your vibe! But remember, we believe in rocking that bling daily. Our pieces are as light as your mood on a Friday, so go ahead—wear the jewelry. Even those pieces that seem too sparkly for a Tuesday morning? Yes, those too! Also... is there really such a thing as too sparkly? We don't think so.

NOTE: Whether it's hitting the gym or attending a gala, remember some pieces prefer the safer confines of your home. Keep your bling away from the sweat and grime of heavy-duty activities.

rule n°2: keep them shiny (like your personality)

Stay away from the dark side... of chemicals, that is. Remember, your jewelry's worst enemies are often found in your daily beauty routine. Lotions, perfumes, and hairsprays are like kryptonite to your sparkling friends. Make it a habit to put your jewelry on last and take it off first. This way, you’ll avoid unnecessary chemical showdowns and keep your pieces looking as vibrant as your personality. And if accidents happen—dab gently, rinse with cool water if needed, and pat dry with a soft cloth.

rule n°3: give them a comfy home

Storage is key! Don’t just toss your jewelry in a drawer or at the bottom of your purse (yes, we’ve seen it happen). Each piece deserves its own comfy spot. Think of it as organizing a little VIP party—every piece gets a velvet-lined spot or a soft pouch that keeps them from getting scratches.

rule n°4: (sun)bath time? not for your bling!

Water is a party pooper for your jewelry. Whether you’re a mermaid at heart or just hitting the showers, remember to leave your jewelry out of your aquatic fun. Water, especially chlorinated or salty, can be harsh on metals and stones. And prolonged exposure to sunlight can lead to fading and damage—honestly, your jewelry isn’t much of a swimmer or sunbather.

rule n°5: check-ups aren't just for pets and people

Even jewelry needs a little check-up now and then. Just like visiting the doc, make sure to give your pieces an annual once-over by a professional. They can spot potential issues before they become jewelry emergencies. Loose settings? Clasps that act up? Replating? We’ve got you covered.

rule n°6: rotate your wardrobe & jewelry

Let them breathe! As much as you might have a favorite piece, give it a break and rotate your jewelry. This not only extends the life of each item but keeps your style fresh and exciting. Plus, it gives you a chance to rediscover old favorites and show them some love, too.

Understanding Cost Per Wear

Cost per wear is an excellent way to measure the value of your artisanal jewelry. It's calculated by dividing the price of the item by the number of times you wear it. This metric shows how investing in high-quality, handcrafted jewelry can actually be (more) economical in the long run.

For instance, a 200,- EUR handcrafted necklace worn 200 times (or almost daily) has a cost per wear of just 1,-EUR.

This calculation helps you appreciate the true value of choosing pieces that last and remain timeless through the years.
